Two new ciders have been added to Thatchers Single Variety range following excellent apple harvests in the autumn.

The eagerly awaited new apple variety Prince William, joins Dabinett as the latest ciders to be produced by the Somerset cider maker.

“The crop of Dabinett was superb, and we have therefore decided to bring this variety back after a break of five years,” explains managing director Martin Thatcher. “The Dabinett apple has long been recognised as an outstanding English cider apple, producing an excellent quality cider without blending. The cider is bright and golden, a favourite with those who like a fine, robust, traditional cider.”

The Prince William apple is a new variety cultivated by Thatchers in conjunction with the National Association of Cider Makers, in Thatchers own Somerset orchards.

“The Prince William is a cider apple that produces a soft, subtle cider,” continues Martin. “We have been developing this particular variety for some time, and we are delighted with the results - Prince William makes a very welcome addition to our Single Variety range.”

Thatchers has been the driving force behind the recent popularity of single variety ciders, and keeps its range fresh by reviewing the ciders produced each season. Last year it produced a limited stock of Redstreak to great acclaim, and believes rotating the brands ensures a continuing interest in the range.

Martin continues, “The single variety sector is steadily growing and as consumers who were first introduced to the category a few years ago now look to try something new and develop their understanding of cider, so the concept of a single variety cider, and the characteristics borne out of the type of apple, are recognised.”

Dabinett, at 5.3%, and Prince William at 4.5%, are both available in 500ml bottles, with a RRP of £1.79.
