Thatchers Open Day takes place on Saturday 20th September between 11.00am and 3.00pm
Learn more about the craft of cider making when Thatchers Cider opens its doors to visitors on Saturday 20th September 2008.
As well as guided tours of the mill, where you will be able to see apples being freshly pressed before being turned into cider, and talk to Thatchers expert cider makers about the different types of cider being produced, visitors will be able to enjoy the tranquillity of the picturesque orchards; compare the old and the new with Thatchers’ 100-year old oak vats and their state-of-the art stainless steel tanks; and sample the company’s award-winning ciders, from the new, acclaimed Prince William single variety cider, to the best selling Gold.
This is a day out for all the family - for the children there will be face-painting, a bouncy castle as well as quizzes and other activities. The Mendip Morris men will also be performing during the day.
A pig roast will be held, with the proceeds going to the Samaritans, and the Thatchers Farm Shop will be open for a full range of bottled and draught ciders, as well as meats and cheeses.
“Our Open Day has become a popular event, as more and more people are keen to learn more about how cider is made, and the importance of this fine product to the heritage of the Westcountry. The region produces some excellent food and drink, and this is an opportunity for people to come along and find out more at first hand,” says managing director Martin Thatcher.
Thatchers Cider Company is one of the UK’s leading independent cider makers. The family company has a passion for making traditional English ciders; and is proud of its Somerset roots, combining its heritage with state of the art production to meet the needs of today’s growing market.
