Thatchers
Prince William Cider has been given top marks in a tasting carried out
by the consumer magazine Beers of the World. With a tasting score of
10/10, and taking the Editors Choice award, the magazine said of
Prince William cider:
“Light and crisp, with a subtle floral note. Delicately flavoured and refreshing. Pick of the bunch.”
23 bottled ciders from England, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy and the USA, were put to the test by Beers of the World, in its second annual cider tasting. Thatchers also topped the table in the first tasting in 2007, when Katy and Vintage were both among the favourites.
Prince William was not the only Thatchers cider to appear in the 2008 Beers of the World tasting. Of Dabinett, which received a Recommended in the tasting, they said:
“Traditional cider taste with a pleasant lightness.”
While Thatchers Katy was singled out as an ideal cider to appear on the dinner table:
“An extremely pale West Country Cider that is reminiscent of a German Riesling. Extremely refreshing, it makes a great accompaniment to asparagus with hollandaise sauce as its sweetness clears the palate but also acts as a counterpoint to the nuttiness of asparagus. The lightness of touch in the cider also makes it a good companion for fish.”
Thatchers Prince William cider has appeared on the shelves for the first time this year. It is crafted from Prince William apples grown in Thatchers own Somerset orchards - a new apple variety cultivated by Thatchers together with the National Association of Cider Makers.
Managing director Martin Thatcher says, ”We love Prince William Cider, and we are delighted that other people do too. To take the top place in the Beers of the World tasting is fantastic!”
