13,000 trees planted in new orchard
Over the last week we’ve planted 13,000 apple trees in a new orchard in Somerset.
After three years of regeneratively farming the land, soil health has improved dramatically, giving us top quality land in which to grow the tastiest apples. And plenty of worms were the sight we needed to confirm the soil was super healthy and ready for planting.
And so, our brand-new 50-acre orchard, roughly the size of 31 football pitches, became home to precisely 13,640 new Katy and Red Windsor apple trees.
These two varieties were carefully selected for their sweet and refreshing taste, as well as being well-suited to the Somerset climate. They’ll go on to make delicious ciders including our single variety Thatchers Katy, Thatchers Juicy Apple and Thatchers Gold.
The orchard will capture around 325 tonnes of CO2 a year, and will also be a great new habitat for wildlife including bugs, bees, birds, deers and hares.
The new orchard is thanks to record demand for our ciders, and that’s thanks to our amazing customers who choose our cider again and again.
So cheers to you for helping make this happen. 🍻
