Family Business of the Year Awards
We are absolutely delighted to have scooped two awards at the Family Business of The Year Awards 2017.
At a presentation at the May Fair Hotel in London, Martin Thatcher was presented with Family Business of the Year for the South and South West, and then went on to receive the award for the Food and Drink Family Business of the Year.
As Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of Family Business United (‘FBU’) explains, “We were delighted to pull together such a vibrant bunch of family businesses for the 2017 awards, some that have succeeded for numerous generations and continue to thrive, and others that are relatively young but have great values at the heart of what they do.”
“Thatchers are a fantastic family firm dating back to 1904 that have been on a real journey to get to where they are today and as fourth generation cidermakers, are certainly planning for the long term and investing significantly to move the business forward. Their core values permeate the entire operation and they have continually invested in all aspects of the business to create the family firm that it is today, a market leader in their field, respectful of their heritage and building solid foundations for the future. A proud family business, Thatchers embody the real essence of what these awards are all about.”
Martin Thatcher, whose Great Grandfather founded the company back in 1904, says,
“It was an inspirational evening to be in the presence of family firms from all over the UK, across many different business sectors. The one thing we all have in common is a commitment to passing our companies down through the generations. That entails not just exceptionally hard work, but a strong passion too.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have returned to Myrtle Farm with two awards. This is recognition not just for previous, current and future generations of the Thatcher family, but for all our employees who share the passion of making great quality Somerset cider and are part of our extended family.
”We’d like to thank Family Business United for recognising Thatchers in this way.”
Norma Stewart, Director Partner at Wellers who sponsored this award added, “It is a privilege to support these awards and to find out more about the fantastic family firms that are the backbone of the UK economy and to present the award to Martin and his team. Thatchers is a business that I am sure we will be hearing lots more from in the future.”
