Three in a Row

We are delighted to have scooped the Food and Drink Company of the Year at this year’s Made in South West Awards.

This is the third year running that we have been recognised in these awards – named Food and Drink Company of the Year in 2012, and in 2013 presented with the night’s top prize, Manufacturer of the Year.

We were up  against stiff competition from other shortlisted regional food and drink producers   – Burts Chips, Sharp’s Brewery, Proper Cornish Food Company and Marston Foods. Cheese producer Wyke Farms was also shortlisted in this category, and went on to pick up the Manufacturer of the Year award.

The awards are a celebration of the best companies designing, developing and making products here in the South West.

Martin Thatcher says, “The Food and Drink category is always hotly contested – which is no surprise as the South West is gaining such a reputation both nationally and internationally for the quality of its produce.  We are absolutely thrilled that the judges selected Thatchers from such a prestigious shortlist.

“We continue to ensure that we produce only the very highest quality ciders here at Myrtle Farm, and over the last year we have been able to bring these to the attention of new audiences, not just in the UK, but in the USA and Australia too.

“It is very much a team effort here at Thatchers, thank you to everyone involved.”

The Made in South West judges felt Thatchers made the “biggest impact in the South West taking into account innovation and use of local produce with commercial success”. They also praised Thatchers export story, recognising the challenges of exporting food and drink overseas.

They said,  “The flagship brand Thatchers Gold remains central to the company’s marketing campaign. As well as national TV, trade advertising and billboards, Thatchers Gold became the official cider of the Glastonbury Festival for a three-year period, a way to raise the brand profile with a new audience.”
