Three new flavours launched in 2025 Cider Barn range
We’re excited to launch three exciting new additions to our exclusive Cider Barn range: Thatchers Redwood, Thatchers Grenadier, and Thatchers Tremletts.
Crafted with passion and skill, the Cider Barn range celebrates our long-standing tradition of small-batch, experimental ciders. Made with the finest apples from this year’s harvest, each new cider in the collection highlights unique qualities, from single apple variety flavours to innovative techniques, unusual blends and the craft of our expert cider makers.

Martin Thatcher, fourth-generation cider maker says: “The Cider Barn range holds a special place in our hearts. We’ve been making cider at Myrtle farm for over 121 years, and innovation remains as important to us now as it was back in 1904. These small-batch ciders represent the passion of our expert cider makers.
“This year we have two single variety ciders, using apples that we enjoy in our classic cider blends, but rarely get showcased as a single variety. This year’s Cider Barns really highlight the special qualities of those apples and why they are integral to our quality blends”.
Richard Johnson, Head Cider Maker at Thatchers Cider said: “It is such a joy and a privilege to have the freedom and space to craft new ciders. The Cider Barn range is Thatchers’ unique place to experiment with varieties, fermentation and blending to uncover new and exciting styles of cider.
“Each cider tells a story about the apple varieties, the orchards they come from and the craftsmanship behind every bottle. This year I’ve enjoyed working with single variety apples grown here on Myrtle Farm, rediscovering their unique characteristics, and using our 175-year-old oak vats to infuse depth and flavour.”
Meet this years’ Thatchers Cider Barns
Thatchers Redwood
Thatchers Redwood, 6% ABV, is blended from a select range of bittersweet and culinary apples including Katy, Harry Masters, Dabinett and Yarlington Mill. It’s matured in Thatchers’ 175-year-old oak vats and infused with oak chips. The process results in a golden cider that has a rich and intense character, with a subtle hint of vanilla aroma.
“With Redwood we wanted to explore ways we could use oak chips, combined with our Katy apples, to create new flavours and characteristics within our ciders”, said Richard Johnson. “We looked at different ways of maturing this cider – by using oak chips, and the result is a smooth cider with dry sweetness.”
Thatchers Grenadier
Thatchers Grenadier, 7.4% ABV, is a single variety cider, made using the crisp, bright green, Grenadier culinary apple, grown in our orchards and freshly pressed within 24hrs of being picked for optimum flavour. The result is a beautifully crafted gentle wine-like, sparkling cider that truly reflects Thatchers’ Somerset orchards. It has a delightfully crisp finish, and floral and fruity notes.
“The Grenadier apple is a favourite here at Myrtle Farm. Thatchers have grown it in their orchards for many years. We usually use it to add a gentle bite to our ciders, but this year we wanted to showcase it in a single variety cider, and we’re delighted with the result. The fruit’s crispness shines through with each sip.” said Richard Johnson.
“With the apples for this cider all from our orchards at Myrtle Farm, crafted and bottled here at our mill, this is a cider that reflects the very heart of Somerset cidermaking.”
Thatchers Tremletts
Crafted from the characterful Tremletts Bitter apple, this single variety Somerset cider delivers a distinctively rich and smooth flavour.
Traditionally used by Thatchers cidermakers to give a delicious tannic bite to some of their most popular cider blends such as Thatchers Gold and Thatchers Rascal, this single variety cider showcases the wonderful complexity of this traditional bittersweet apple.
Thatchers Tremletts, 6% ABV, is a full-bodied cider shaped by the bold Tremletts apple; its deep flavour, perfectly rounded off with a light sparkling finish.
Richard Johnson said: “We’re the largest grower of Tremletts apples, with over 50 acres dedicated to the variety. We love using it to add depth and bite to our favourite cider blends, so it’s wonderful to showcase its beautiful and complex flavours as a single variety cider.”
Thatchers’ Myrtle Farm is home to not just eight varieties, but 458 varieties of apple, making it the largest collection in the UK. This offers Thatchers’ cidermakers a rich and diverse range of flavours to experiment with.
The new Cider Barn range is now available in 500ml bottles exclusively from the our Cider Shop at Myrtle Farm, online at www.thatcherscider.co.uk/cider/cider-barn and at the Railway Inn in Sandford, priced from £2.60.
The ciders make a perfect gift for cider lovers, or a special treat for those who love to try something new.
