Mural brings Bristol to life for visiting sports fans

A vibrant mural has been unveiled at Ashton Gate Stadium, introducing away fans in the Atyeo Stand to some of Bristol’s brilliant landmarks.

Commissioned for Bristol Sport by Thatchers, the giant artwork has been created by Bristol based illustrator and artist, Wei Ong, known to thousands as Silent Hobo.

He has created many distinctive artworks across the city, with this being the latest to be unveiled and his first at Ashton Gate.

Transforming the Ashton Gate away end into the Bristol skyline, there’s a Thatchers twist to the landscape, including of course our iconic golden Hot Air Balloon.

As football and rugby fans from across the nation climb the stairs to the bar area, they will now be greeted by this vibrant mural for a true Bristol welcome.

There’s so much to spot in the artwork, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Ashton Court,  colourful houses, as well as some of our much loved ciders.

Philip McTeer, Thatchers head of marketing says, “It’s been so much fun working with Silent Hobo to create this amazing artwork. What I love is that it’s truly unique and can only be about Bristol.

“With so many of our local landmarks included, it’s a real “what’s what” of the city. We really hope it will not only become a talking point but importantly give a real Bristol welcome to visiting supporters.

“We’ve worked with Silent Hobo before, and as ever, it’s been an incredible experience to watch him bring his artwork to life.”

It took a week for Silent Hobo to create the image on the wall of the Atyeo stand.

Mark Kelly, Ashton Gate Stadium CEO said: “Ashton Gate Stadium and our Bristol Sport clubs have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Thatchers Cider for many seasons, so we were delighted to be able to work closely together on this project to create a new West Country-inspired mural to welcome fans in the Atyeo Stand.

“The mural, which has been so brilliantly brought to life by the incredibly talented graffiti artist Silent Hobo, is a celebration of the city of Bristol, our community and the iconic Thatchers brand that is so synonymous with the region. It is a colourful and joyous representation of our vibrant city, and we hope all our visiting supporters love the mural as much as we do!”
