Family Business United has created the inaugural Family Business Top 100 which showcases some of the best of family business people across the UK.
We’re delighted that our third generation cider maker John Thatcher, and fourth generation Martin Thatcher, are amongst the first 50 names included.
Nominations were sought from all corners of the UK, showcasing businesses and recognising their efforts.
Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United explains, “Family firms take the long-term view and invest in their businesses and the communities in which they operate. We therefore wanted to create the Family Business Top 100 to recognise outstanding individuals within these organisations and to shine a light on the people that are making a difference within the business and more broadly too.”
Family Business United cited John’s inspirational leadership, having given a lifetime of service to the UK agriculture and cider industries. It has been John’s passion for research and innovation, in particular in the areas of orchard stewardship and sustainability, that has led him to be regarded within both the cider and fruit growing industries as one of the country’s most respected cider makers, pomologist and ambassador for the industry.
Martin has also been recognised for his inspirational leadership as a cider maker and entrepreneur. At the helm at Thatchers for thirty years, and now with his two children, fifth generation Eleanor and Peter working within the business, Thatchers has continued to keep its focus on sustainable, quality cider making, innovation and investment, embracing change across all aspects of the business.
