Choosing the right time to harvest takes years of expertise.

Luckily our Farm Manager, Chris, knows exactly when our apples are ripe and has a few top tips for harvesting the apples from the apple tree in your garden:

1. Keep an eye on the apple’s colour. For an apple like Katy, as it ripens it becomes a brilliant red, meaning it’s ready for eating (or our favourite, making cider)!
2. It’s not just the outside of the apples that change colour. If you cut into a ripe apple, the pips should have changed from white to dark brown.
3. Different apple varieties ripen at different times between August and November. As apples ripen it becomes much easier to hand-pick them from the tree (a tell-tell sign that they are ready to harvest!).
