Reducing our use of plastic packaging

We’re continuing to reduce our use of plastic packaging with the introduction of a new system for stabilising packs when palletised. The new adhesive application will be used for all of our palletised ten can packs of cider being transported to retailers.

The new application stabilises the ten packs of cider while on the pallet and will  enable the removal of the plastic wrapping required for secure transportation. We estimate a saving of 75 tonnes of plastic every year with the new application. Furthermore, removing the plastic wrapping means an additional case per layer is able to be safely loaded onto each pallet.

Ensuring the cases of palletised cider are transported safely and securely is paramount and we have therefore been researching in-depth the most effective alternative method of achieving the necessary strength required. Following extensive trials, we are now rolling our new system out to retailers, with Sainsbury’s the first to take the plastic-free cases.

“This is another important step in our sustainability programme,” explains Gary Delafield, Operations Director.
